The Wildlife Park’s history: a passion, a reasoning
Gérald Singer was a farmer and was passionate of the regional fauna. Supported by his wife –Liliane - he wanted to share his love for nature to the biggest number of people, converting agricultural lands in a wildlife park.
A place for learning and knowing
Since its creation, the Park has welcomed schools to make discover the European fauna to children - often badly known. Children are men’s future: they must know nature which surrounds them to assure their future and the future of the environment where they want to live.
A citizen project
Today, environment is a current issue. Since 1980, the Park has always argued in favour of the respect that we owe to animals, nature and Men.
Over the centuries…
Until the Revolution, Sainte-Croix estate was the property of Metz bishop. A convent and a tilery took up the locality. We can still find remains under the clay layer on the ground.
On 17th October 1818, General Mouton – Count of Lobau, purchased Stock pond and tens others small ponds surrounding forests.
On 15th February 1822, this former Napoleon’s camp assistant added to its patrimony Sainte-Croix estate where he wanted to convert – apparently – a hunting lodge in to the farmhouse. The estate stayed in the Lobau–de Broglie family since 1967.
In 1967, Liliane and Gérald Singer bought this property and farmed it.
In 1980, they began a crazy bet: transform their lands into a VISION PARK. With any support, nobody believed in the presentation of the European fauna, the Park was born.
